Felt, fibreglass or rubber?

There is no single right answer. Modern torch-on felt is cost-effective and proven on garages and outbuildings. GRP fibreglass gives a seamless, hard-wearing finish that suits extensions and balconies. EPDM rubber is a single sheet with no joins, ideal for larger, simpler roofs. We will tell you which we would put on our own house and why.

Whichever you choose, the detail is what matters: the fall, the drip edge, the upstands against walls, the outlet. That is where cheap flat roofs leak, and that is where we spend our time.

Repair or replace

If the deck is sound and the failure is a split, a blister or a bad joint, a repair is often the sensible call. If the felt has perished across the roof, the boards are soft underfoot or the insulation is wet, we will say so and quote for a replacement with a new deck.
